Deep concerns regarding the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024
I am writing to express my deep concern about the proposed Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024, currently before Parliament. While its stated goal is to protect children from harm online, this Bill contains provisions that pose serious risks to the freedoms and privacy of all Australians.
The central issue with this legislation is its thinly veiled attempt to establish a mandatory digital identification system for Australians to access social media platforms. By imposing stringent age-verification requirements, the Bill essentially forces social media providers to collect sensitive personal information about users, paving the way for a de facto national digital ID system.
This is a gross overreach of government authority and an invasion of individual privacy. Social media platforms should not be compelled to act as custodians of our most personal data, which will inevitably make them attractive targets for cybercriminals. Additionally, there is little evidence to suggest such measures will effectively achieve the Bill’s goal of protecting children under 16. Instead, it creates a costly and bureaucratic system that will burden businesses and infringe on Australians’ right to anonymous online communication.
Protecting children is, and should remain, the responsibility of parents and guardians. The government’s role should be to educate and empower families, not to impose sweeping regulations that undermine everyone’s freedoms.
This Bill is a dangerous precedent that could lead to the erosion of other fundamental rights. It shifts the responsibility of online safety away from families and individuals and places it in the hands of the government and private corporations. This approach is both paternalistic and impractical.
I urge you to oppose the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024. Protecting children does not require compromising the privacy and freedoms of all Australians. Instead, we need a balanced approach that focuses on education, parental empowerment, and technological innovation without resorting to invasive measures.
Thank you for considering my views. I hope you will join me in standing against this flawed legislation.
Sincerely,
General Maddox.

This letter regarding the Social Media Minimum Age Bill emphasizes concerns about digital ID implications, privacy risks, and government overreach, while advocating for alternative approaches to online safety.
The Australian people spoke up in regards to the Misinformation and Disinformation Bill with its defeat in the Senate today (Nov 25, 2024). Any Senator willing to hitch their ride to that wagon was risking their career. That’s how important it was to defeat that Bill.
We only reached that point to due to the pressure put on to the senate.
The same must be applied to this latest Bill.
The government and its controllers (WEF et al) have their plans for a technocratic society with harsh control measures in place. They want an end to freedom of speech so we cannot criticize their plans and actions. They want a digital ID implemented and mandated for all online activity. They want a CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) tied in to it all. A top down complete control and governance of society.
Defeating these Bills is the only way to slow and perhaps stop this from happening incrementally.
I urge all whom this post reaches please copy the letter and send it to them yourself. Everyone needs to do this. Urge family and friends to do so also.
