A bold move by the US Government may see the end of alternative media outlets being accessed by Americans.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which has been renewed every year by whatever president is in power since 9/11, will have a piece of legislation included in it from 2017 which will;
…improve the ability of the United States to counter foreign propaganda and disinformation by establishing an interagency center housed at the State Department to coordinate and synchronize counter-propaganda efforts throughout the U.S. government.
The bill has a second function which is to;
…create a grant program for NGOs, think tanks, civil society and other experts outside government who are engaged in counter-propaganda related work.
Sounds like a great idea right? Give more power to government agencies and even NGO’s to deal with the pesky Russian and Chinese “fake news” threat.
Never mind that major news outlets are caught over and over again creating fake news.
Never mind that the CIA implemented Operation Mockingbird which was designed to recruit leading American journalists into a propaganda network to help present the CIA’s views.
No, none of that matters. It’s the Ruskies!
What will this mean for the thousands of alternative media websites and independent journalists around the world?
Well in my opinion this is the next logical step in the establishments campaign of censorship. They know they can’t stop the public from starting up a news blog or website so instead they’re going to attempt to prevent those sites deemed a “threat” to their agenda from being accessed by the public.
Only the pre-approved mainstream media propaganda machine mind-soup will be able to be accessed in this ironically Chinese communist style method of censorship and control.
All is not lost. Every time the establishment gets a bit too big for their britches some enlightened individuals start up a new way to communicate their message to the public. Reddit was recently caught censoring their threads so people jumped ship to Voat which is an almost identical social media platform without the command and control agenda.
So try they may. It only makes the alternative media stronger and more determined to carry out counter-propaganda activities against the beast.
