Air Power Think Tank Says Australia Will Have Armed Drones
By General Maddox.
(Real News Australia) A recent article by The Australian discusses how a recent report by the Sir Richard Williams Foundation highlights the need to manage public perception of armed drones as mindless killing machines before we can deploy them as part of our military arsenal. The report which is linked to on their home page has now been made unavailable.
The United States has been ever increasing their use of drone strikes to take out targets on President Obama’s kill list. Dozens of sanctioned killings have been hitting terrorists where it hurts however the collateral damage has been extremely high. It would seem that for every terrorist killed there’s are dozens of innocent civilians killed in the process. To make matters worse the remaining family members of the deceased tend to end up taking arms and declaring Jihad on the US as vengeance for the loss of family and friends. Media exposure of the aftermath of these killings has had its share of air time and the public has become ever increasingly weary of these powerful eyes in the sky.
This is where the Think Tank has identified an obstacle to overcome. The public. No one wants our drones killing innocent civilians in some foreign land let alone our own backyard.
Currently Australia only uses unarmed drones (UAS) for surveillance, mostly maritime. However the need for armed drones is to come about in order to combat other drones that terrorists may use to attack targets from afar.
“If Amazon can contemplate delivering books by UAS, so can terrorists contemplate delivering improvised explosive devices,” the report says.
It appears the Think Tank is predicting that the next terror attack is to come in the form of a drone with an improvised explosive device (IED) strapped to it.
“The ADF needs to develop appropriate capabilities to counter potential UAS terrorist attacks and integrate them with capabilities that it has developed to counter other forms of terrorism,” it says
So will we see an incident here in Australia or perhaps the US where a drone is responsible for killing innocent civilians controlled by a “terrorist”? Looks like the making of the next false flag if you ask me.
Love the title!
What are you worried about, armed drones are deployed in Foreign countries for the safety of the public back in American; anyone killed by a drone must be an unlawful enemy combatant and therefore not a civilian.
Running a drone operation is bound to be an expensive task but, the added safety value a drone can provide for the public surely overrides times when the public are killed by the same drone. If not, there is always the Sedition laws keep complainers to a minimum.
