Those in a position of power over the rest of us prove once again that there’s a different set of rules for themselves than there is for us.
By General Maddox.
Our new Chief of Staff is a “Bloody Idiot” according to an old government ad campaign to curb drink driving.
Personally I have always been careful to stay under the limit and not drive while under the influence of alcohol, or any other substance for that matter, like most folks out there I’m sure. Some of you may remember that old ad campaign slogan to discourage drink driving here in Australia, “You drink then drive, you’re a bloody idiot”. Well our new Laboral, sorry I mean Liberal, government Chief of Staff, Peta Credlin, is indeed a bloody idiot according to that mantra.
Tony Abbott’s Chief of Staff recently had to appear at Canberra’s Magistrates Court and subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after the official blood alcohol reading that she was charged with was .075. The legal limit in Australia being .05. Miss Credlin didn’t lie about the incident to try and get off scott free. No, it appears when you have been given a “Get out of jail free” card by the country’s highest lawman you don’t need to lie. You simply show up, plead guilty, pay court costs of $69, pose for the cameras and go back to work like it never happened.
Our new incoming Attorney General George Brandis wrote Miss Credlin a glowing character reference which appears to be all you need these days to avoid criminal charges. Canberra Magistrate Maria Doogan dismissed the charge on the basis of Credlin’s good character. Has the Magistrate just set a precedent for future DUI cases? Doubtful. This type of arrangement only applies to those in a position of power proving yet again it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
See the original article here by news.com.au. You may notice in that story the link to the character reference is now a dead link. Perhaps too many people thought it fitting to make copies of it for future use. Hey, it worked for her right?
Another example of this type of power play can be seen here in an article in The Australian back in 2008 where businessman and high profile lawyer to society’s elite class Chris Murphy helped millionaire businessman John Singleton get off scott free too.
On another occasion, Murphy successfully helped Singleton avoid a fine and possible criminal conviction for driving his Bentley at 160km/h. Murphy argued that the modern design of Singleton’s $600,000 car meant it could safely travel at 50km/h over the speed limit.
Imagine if you tried to use that same argument to get out of a speeding fine. Not only would you have zero chance but you would be laughed out of the courtroom.
There is an absolute plethora of examples just like these illustrating the societal inequalities present today. It’s not fair and it’s not right. The same rules that apply to us must apply to everyone. Even those who look down on the rest of us. Otherwise actions like this will continue to solidify their position of power over us.

Great liars are born to the task… it’s cradle is psychopathy….. Gus
“Democracy is the menopause of Western society, the Grand Climacteric of the body social. Fascism is its middle-aged lust.”
As our government bureaucracy expands in Aus. to absolute central control the antics of our elected ‘privileged’ are protected within the confines of corporate law that now controls our judiciary.
As Murdoch, the controller of our press in Aus. once stated on national TV…. “More privileges for the privileged”.
We must understand that all our state and national governments are corporations registered in Washington DC and we the electorate, or better described by Karl Marx as the ‘proletariat’, have never been informed that our vote has absolutely nothing to do with the agenda of our elected leaders.
The privileged class are not driven by basic human morals and care of the masses but driven by power and, of course….. privilege….. a privilege that is not common law but corporate law administered by corporate paid people to administer their law as they see it…… we have been conned…. Gus
The above leading paragraph or quote was not mine but from Jean Baudrillard that I missed to write…. Gus
Well said either way
…and the beat goes on, and on. Unequal protection under the law. Corrupted judiciary. I’m surprised she had to make an appearance at all. It was reported that she paid court costs of $69. Left unreported is the more substantial “fine” paid to public officials greasing the skids.
Also, I see that in Australia the legal limit is .05, which is ridiculous. Given the proven unreliability of the junk science of breath testing, one could exceed that limit with a single glass of wine with dinner. It looks as if your country has succumbed to the MADDness of MADD…neo-prohibitionism.
How many blokes are reading this article from inside jail for drink driving charges…
Or have lost their drivers licence.
Or from home with their kids, because they can’t work from losing their license..
Exactly.
