Ian William Chubb, AC (born 17 October 1943) has held the post of Chief Scientist of Australia since 23 May 2011. He was the Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University from 2001 to 2011, and president of the
International Alliance of Research Universities from 2006 to 2009. Chubb has a Masters in Science, a DPhil from the University of Oxford, an honorary doctorate of science from Flinders University and an honorary doctorate of
laws from Monash University. He was made an Officer in the general division of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1999. In 2006 he was made a Companion of the Order for service to higher education.
